the secret to plumbing qe interfaces

I'm trying to setup/plumb qe card interfaces on a SparcStation20 with
Solaris 9.

ifconfig qe0 plumb worked fine with Sol8 and Sol7. Is there a secret to
Sol9?
This isn't a qfe card, only 10mb qe card.
