I'm trying to boot a Solaris 10 box (V440) off the network in order to
recover it's bootblocks. Unfortunately, the only server that I can
use for this purpose is a Linux box. I've copied the Solaris
installation media to the box and shared it via NFS.
After much trial and tribulation, it retrieves it's minikernel via
tftp, and then sends a bootparam request, which as far as I can tell
is successful. Then it just spits the following on the console:
4000 /pci@1c,600000/network@2: 100 Mbps half duplex link up
Requesting Internet address for 0:3:ba:e5:9f:bd
boot: cannot open kernel/sparcv9/unix
Enter filename [kernel/sparcv9/unix]:
Pressing return generates NFS packets to the server, but I cannot tell
what it's doing or trying to do. kernel/sparcv9/unix indeed does not
exist in the root fs that I pointed it to (the one off the
installation media). Here's my /etc/bootparams for review:
$ sudo cat /etc/bootparams
oss01-js root=192.168.10.2:/data01/jumpstart/images/new/solaris_5.10_06_06/sparc/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot
install=192.168.10.2:/data01/jumpstart/images/new/solaris_5.10_06_06/sparc
boottype=:in rootopts=:rsize=8192
$
Let me know if more information is required,
Thanks!
-Jon
