Hi All,
First of all, i appologize for stripping off the company confidential
stuff from the problem. But, as it turns out, that is where the issue
was.
Thanks to Riddoch John and grzesb@icm.edu.pl for point it out.
we are using the employee ids for user names. so, when i use the user
name , which is numeral, with chown, it was assuming it is a literal UID
instead of looking up the actual user id from password file. using the
UID with chown fixed the issue like magic!
I am glad we figured it out instead of killing bugs like zombies.
Thank you guy!
