Shrinking Root

Hi Gurus

This is not a veritas nor E25K question but a legitimate Sun Solaris
boot disk question:

We have just fully installed two Sun E25K servers with both Solaris 9
and 10 on various domains.
However we installed the entire first boot disk as root (/) and placed
swap on an entire second disk for performance reasons.

We are now attempting to install Veritas Volume Manager which will not
install because Veritas requires a section of the root disk to be swap
or some other FS which it can shrink to place its private region on the
disk. It cannot do this with a full root-only disk.

We have tried ufsdump and ufsrestore to a smaller parition but fsck
fails when it checks the super block because ufsrestore places that
reversing the shrunk root partition.

Does anyone have a procedure to shrink a normal newly installed ufs root
partition successfully to create 2-3 cylinders at the end of the disk
for Veritas to work on without reinstalling the entire OS on each domain
of the E25K?
