SMC vs Net-snmp for resource/failure monitoring?

Hello,

I was wondering if venerable Sun managers have preference for tools used
for monitoring system components, such as disks, CPUs, whatnot on Sun
boxes. In the past, I have successfully utilized cricket + net-snmp
tools for performance montoring (memory consumption, cpu utilization,
etc). Now I need to add monitoring for cpu, memory, disk, and fan
failures (FRUs). I know that Sun Management Center has those features,
but I'm unclear on the SMC licensing issues (does one pay $ for health
monitoring modules for V440 for example?). Additionally, can one easily
send traps to a 3-rd party product, such as opennms (integration of SMC
w/ HPOV and other high end NMSes exists, but extra agents are required
on the NMS end)? If so, where can one find MIBs w/ traps defined for
V440? I found SUNWmasf implementing sun management agent for
architectures I'm interested in which can be nicely integrated with
net-snmp per http://www.kilala.nl/Sysadmin/SNMP-sun.php. However agent
does not provide CPU/disk type of failure notifications.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,
