v890/v880 ge0 sticks at just over 100Mb/sec

Going over my Orca logs I'm noticing that the fiber gigabit interface on my
v880s and v890s never seem to go much above 100Mbit. No errors from the
interfaces and ndd shows 1000 negotiated, up and Full Duplex with no errors
from the switch and params seem to be correct. All the Gigabit Copper
interfaces I have regularly show transfer rates up in the hundreds.
Is there some rule of thumb tuning that these need in order to perform at
real Gbit speeds?
