Too many people to thank who replied....

In the end I used the Sun blueprint with the method by Christoper Manly for now

http://www.sun.com/blueprints/0600/scrub.pdf

other suggestions were...

http://wipe.sourceforge.net/ from David Magda

http://home.arcor.de/bnsmb/public/htdocs/clean_disks.html from Bernd Schemmer

BC Wipe as I had already found http://www.jetico.com/index.htm#/bcwipe_unix.htm and recommended by James Ray

Ryan Anderson suggested creating a bootable CD which I will most certainly look to do, and someone suggested creating a diskless boot, which again sounds better.

The usual dd /dev/zero for a quick wipe, but the only way to make 100% sure is crushing!! a little drastic in this case.

Thanks to all and those I didn't mention

Regards,
Paul
