Question regarding SCSI and unplugging disks

Hello,

We encounter a problem under Solaris 10 (did not test previous Solaris
versions) in which we have 2 SCSI disks in a SVM mirror setup and 3
SCSI disks in a ZFS pool on an Adaptec adpu320 card.

When pulling out any of the disks (during operation as a test for a failed
disk), the system basically hangs completely, although the kernel is
still functioning but any disk access to other disks is not happening
what so ever.

It fills the log file with SCSI warning and errors, like "SCSI transport
failed: reason 'timeout': giving up" ... "NOTICE: adpu320: 3rd party SCSI
bus reset".

It appears that Solaris keeps trying to access the disk and therefore
does not do anything else with the remaining disks. It should be the
case that Solaris gives up on the disk, have SVM or ZFS handle the failed
disk.

Does anyone know about a configuration (either in the Adaptec BIOS or in
the Solaris kernel/driver) to fix this problem?

Regards,

Marcel
