Setting NIC speed / best practice.

I have 3 systems that I need to update the startup such to ensure that
nic settings are set to 100 Mbit / Full duplex. Two of the systems have
ce interfaces and one of the systems has a bge interface.

>From looking on the internet I have seen instances where people say that
you can update /etc/system and in other places they say you can't and
you have to update /platform/sun4u/kernel/drv ce.conf or bge.conf to
update the interfaces and yet in other documents, people get around this
by setting up a startup script in /etc/rc2.d called S99net-something and
just adding lines to setup the nic such as ndd -set /dev/ce instanace 0,
etc. etc. to add duplex and speed settings.

Is there a best practice to how to set the NIC speed and duplex
settings? Is it true that you can't set the ce and bge settings in the
/etc/system?

Thank you.
Dan
