Hitachi (HDS) SAN

Hello,

Hardware/Software

2 Hitachi 7700E Storage Arrays (call them HDS1 and HDS2. HDS2 is new and no LUNS to start with)
Brocade Switches
JNIC Fibre Cards - JNIfcaw VERSION: 2.2.1.HIT.06.01

I am in the process of setting up a test SAN environment using the above. Sun hardware is E10K and E450s.

HDS Engineer formated the Hitachi disks and created the LUNS I requested (I wanted set of LUNS from each HDS). He gave me the LUN numbers and disapeared. I modified the sd.conf and included the LUN numbers given to me, After a reconfigueration boot I can see lots of Hitachi Disks on my test server. However, after a carefull examination I found that I can see disks belong to the production servers as well. My initial thought this was a zoning issue. However, the HDS guy insists that the zoning is correct.

After looking in the /var/adm/messages I found WWNs and Port numbers. After modifying the sd.conf/fcaw.conf to use WWN/LUN combination (from HDS2) to bind to targets, now I can see the disks allocated to me. Howevre, when I added the WWN/LUNS from HDS1, again I can see disks belong to production servers. After checking all the production servers I found that some of the WWNs and PORT numbers appear on more than one server. I am not having much joy from HDS. These port numbers are not related to the Brocade ports. My questions are:

1) These WWNs and Port numbers - How do they get created? Is it by HDS, Fabric, Brocade or the JNIfcaw driver?

2) What information is used in creating these? If I know what goes behind I might be able to get unique WWNs/Port numbers created and in tun I would be able to use them for persistent binding all across our servers.

3) Can I have some pointers for good documentation/pdf files related to this SAN setup? I cant find much admin type guides on HDS/Brocade web sites apart from glossy prsentations.

4) Is there any freeware/hds/JNI utility which can be used to generate the WWN/Port numbers apart from looking into messages file. I am trying to document these for DR purposes. I am after something like luxadm.

Regards,

Dave
