fc adapter behaving badly

Good day, dear Sun Managers,

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens PP450 with 4 x 1.1G / 16G running SunOS superserver
5.8 Generic_117350-38 sun4us sparc FJSV,GPUZC-M. There's a slight problem
with
the other of the two QLogic 2300 FC adapters, which is that it just won't
configure.

I can see them with the prtdiag:
Slot Name Model max freq.
--------- ------------------------- ---------------------------
----------------
PCI#00 SUNW,qlc-pci1077,2300.f7+ 66Mhz
PCI#01 SUNW,qlc-pci1077,2300.10+ 66Mhz

and the cfgadm can see them:
c4 fc-fabric connected unconfigured unknown
c5 fc-fabric connected unconfigured unknown

but when i configure them the other adapter won't configure:
c4 fc-fabric connected configured unknown
c4::50001fe15005e90a array-ctrl connected configured unknown
c4::50001fe15005e90b array-ctrl connected configured unknown
c4::50001fe15005e90c array-ctrl connected configured unknown
c4::50001fe15005e90d array-ctrl connected configured unknown
c5 fc-fabric connected unconfigured unknown
c5::50001fe15005e908 unknown connected unconfigured failed
c5::50001fe15005e909 unknown connected unconfigured failed
c5::50001fe15005e90e unknown connected unconfigured failed
c5::50001fe15005e90f unknown connected unconfigured failed

Now the overall setup is exactly the same as in the other two servers i have:
two qla2300's, Sun SAN 4.4.6, MPxIO and all this connected to a couple of FC
switches and from there on to the disk cabinet. It used to be connected to an
EMC2 x300 with Emulex adapters (like the other two servers as well) but the
emulex&emc2 stuff is all gone now.

I had the faulty adapter changed and now at least i can see it with the
cfgadm; before the change it didn't even show there. I have swapped the fc
cables, tried different switch ports and everything but the result is always
the same.

Messages shows a lot of this:
Sep 20 17:44:13 superserver qlc: [ID 284321 kern.warning] WARNING: qlc(1):
logi
n fabric port failed D_ID=a10003, error=6

Perhaps it's something else than the adapter? Has anyone encountered similar
problems? I'd appreciate a lot any kind of information concerning this kind of
problem.

Br,
Jarkko
