Disk dead ?

Hello,

One of our machines was set up before my time and I've just noticed that it
has an unused disk in it. However I can't format this disk or anything,
so I was wondering if it is faulty.

When I do a "format" it takes a long time to return, and then shows <drive
t ype unknown> after the device name, where the others have size,
cylinders, etc. If I then select the disk it asks what type of disk it
is. When I assume that it's the same as the other disks on that machine,
it lets me view the partitions fine, but won't let me format it in anyway.
If I do try to "analyze" it it says "Current Disk is unformatted."

If I try to "format" (within the "format" command) it waits for a few
minutes and then (after asking if I want to continue) returns:

     Reserve failed
     failed

prtdiag says that the Disk LED status for all of them is "OK"

Does anyone know if this means that the disk is corrupt ? This is a production machine, so I can't reboot.

Thanks,

Daniel
