We have a SUNFire V440.
We would like to connect its serial port to a Black Box Rack Terminal Server
16 port device. Its Part# is 900-0186/T.
If I read well in the documentation the pinning of the RJ 45 on Sun server
side: (serial management port)
Pin 1 RTS
Pin 2 DTR
Pin 3 TXD
Pin 4 Signal Ground
Pin 5 Signal Ground
Pin 6 RXD
Pin 7 DSR/DCD
Pin 8 CTS
Target is our Terminal Server RJ 45 port (according to the description found
on the bottom side of the device)
Pin 1 DCD
Pin 2 RTS
Pin 3 DSR
Pin 4 Tx Data
Pin 5 Rx Data
Pin 6 0 V
Pin 7 CTS
Pin 8 DTR
The Black Box TechSupport sent us a pinning to a cable, but it does not work.
On V440 ------------- on Black Box (TechSupport)
Pin 1 RTS ----------- Pin 1 Not Used
Pin 2 DTR ----------- Pin 2 RTS
Pin 3 TXD ----------- Pin 3 DSR
Pin 4 Signal Ground - Pin 4 TXD

Pin 8 CTS ----------- Pin 8 DTR
If you have any experiences with this type of Sun server and this type of
Terminal Server please help us. We would like to know that, should we buy a
converter/adapter for the connection or we can build a cable which is able to
connect our V440 and the Black Box Terminal Server.
