solaris server migration

I have been asked to migrate a lanquishing mission critical E4500 running
Solaris 7 to a V440 running Solaris 9.

All the applications are supported on Solaris. The data potion of the upgrade
is simple since it stored on an external device that is easily soft-linked.
To reduce complexity, I would rather separate the hardware and software
upgrades. However, the hosting provider policy is that the V440 must run
Solaris 9 at mininum from the start.

My planned method is currently to install the applications on the new box and
then gzip, copy and unzip all necessary configuration files from the old to
the new. However, it is going to be quite time consuming to identify all the
necessary files and then I am also at risk for missing any configuration
files.

I am having trouble finding any white papers or best practice documents on the
best way to complete this migration.

Any recommendations or pointers?

Thanks much, Jason
