DNS equivalent of 'ypcat -k hosts'?

Hi all,

I am thinking of getting rid of the NIS host map altogether and just use DNS or name resoluation.
However, I do appreciate the convenience of having the 'ypcat' tool to be able to get hosts based
patterns. for example, 'ypcat -k hosts|grep xxx ' to get all hosts with 'xxx' string.

What are the similar tools that people use for querying DNS?

Zaigui
