Looking for fastest way to copy large number of email files

We will be upgrading our email application (iPlanet Messenger) and in the
process we will need to

copy our email store (34 GB) from a Sun E-250 to a Sun E-450 (both running
Solaris 8). As a test

to determine the length of time for the copy I created an NFS mount between
the two servers and

used the "cp -pR" command but canceled this after the forth day into it
thinking there must be a

faster way. Then I tried tar'ing the email store but it took 36 hours just
to tar it to a file so I know it

will take as least as long to untar it on the E-450. I am exploring the use
of the iPlanet imsbackup

and imsretore commands but my questions are does anyone have other
suggestions for the quickest

way to copy hundreds of thousands of small (email) files from one server to
another and has anyone

been in a similar situation and if so what did you do?

Thanks in advance,

Clay
