devfsadm and 24 device links

I have 2 fibre cards plugged into a SAN switch.
I have 3 tape devices also plugged into the same zone.

Why do I see 72 links in /dev/rmt?

# ls -lat | grep "/pci@8,700000/SUNW,qlc@2" | wc -l
      72

I assume I just use the /dev/rmt/6 when I reference any kind of backups?
Can this directory be cleaned up or is this normal?

Thanks
