what do you (plan to) use for managing 100's of SUN servers?

Hi,

many products define themselves as 'management' tools, but merely restrict
their functionality to monitoring and inventory, so in general: data
collection.

I am searching after the best solution to really apply changes to several
100's of SUN servers, all with different functionalities in the company (as to
differentiate from a grid or alike), and ranging from T2000, over 280's,
480's, 490's, 6800, and old E10k, several E15K's, and a few E25K's.
With changes I mean : managing disks, filesystems, VxVM, SVM, security, user
accounts, staging new servers, monitoring, configuration standards checking,
...

- either we build all reoccuring manipulations inside user-friendly, web based
scripts (easy to delegate given the proper restrictions by the webserver
config, all business habits can perfectly be included in these scripts, all
functionality can be script with CLI commands, disadvantage: home-built
scripts)

- either we go for SUN Management Center functionalities that will be
integrated inside the N1 System Manager (many customisations needed? What
functionality is there yet? Advantage: vendor-supported software)

- or we go for WBEM deployment (for sure no support yet for VxVM; can we
customise it to all our needs? we're building again several add-ons to fill in
the gaps in functionalities; it's a standard, so world-wide support)

- any 3rd party product? By my knowledge, nothing else than something coming
from SUN will be near to ready with enough functionalities

I am very interested in what other people have chosen as strategy, or which
arguments they have come accross.

Thanks a lot in advance !!

Rob

(ps: I will summarize)
