Hi,
I have a MAGMA 4 port PCI serial card which I am trying to use to
connect to the console of an Ultra 30
Using a 3-wire cable and running tip I get:-
# tip port0
link down
If I make a loopback cable as per the user manual figure 5 I can run the
diag /opt/MAGMA/bin/loopback
and then tip will work to the Ultra30 with a 3 wire cable until the
board is power cycled.

I should be able to use setport to enable console attachment using :-
/opt/MAGMA/bin/setport 0-3 9600 cs8 -parenb -parodd -crtscts msvr -DTR
msvr -RTS -hangup
But I still get "link down"
Making a cable exactly as in figure 6 is very fiddly (as the RJ45 pins 6
and 8 have to be linked) and I was hoping to use a simple 3 wire cable
as I use for ttya and ttyb.
