URGENT: SunOne DS5.2 intermittently failing to authenticate

Hey all;

This weekend, we converted about 150 workstations from NIS+ to LDAP.
Everything worked fine in testing. When we went into production though,
everything went straight to hell.

When we get a certain load, something on the scale of 100 users logging in
over the space of a few minutes, we suddenly lose all directory server
lookup abilities, for about ten minutes. That is, EVERY SINGLE CLIENT
fails to do any sort of lookup for about ten minutes. After that, it
suddenly starts working without a problem.

ldaplist fails.
ldapsearch works.

There are no errors whatsoever on the DS server. On the client, we see
this message:

Jun 12 08:20:25 montero ldap_cachemgr[6745]: [ID 293258 daemon.error]
libsldap: Status: 7 Mesg: Session error no available conn.
Jun 12 08:20:25 montero ldap_cachemgr[6745]: [ID 186574 daemon.error]
Error: Unable to refresh profile:montero: Session error no available conn.

We're at our wits end here. Sun has no idea.

Oh yeah, the hardware. The servers are X2100s running Solaris 10U1/x64.
The clients are a mix of Solaris 8,9, and 10 all on SPARC gear. (about 80%
of them are Solaris 8)

Any ideas? Anything?

Thanks,
Colin
