The chances are the 'reconfigure' file you are trying to remove has an
unprintable character embedded.
Have your tried removing it with something like "rm /reconfigure*"? You
can also verify if this is the issue by listing the file using the "-b"
option to "ls" (see man ls). This will force the printing of
non-printable characters in their octal notation (\ddd).

i have a solaris 9 e220r 2x450mhz procs, and 2gb ram - it handles
e-mail using sun's JES.
after being up 45 or so days, it decided to reboot - other machines on
the same power circuit are all still up with long uptimes.
i've looked at syslog, syslog.0 adm/messages, etc. but nothing.
there is no crash file. where should i look to find clues.

Hey Guys,
I have trying to build Samba 3.0 with ADS support on Solaris 9. This
is
how I am trying to configure samba:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba \
--with-ldap \
--enable-static \
--with-ads \
--with-krb5 \
--with-libiconv \
--with-automount
I have set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/opt/sfw/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib"
ls /opt/sfw/lib
liblber.a liblber.so.2 libldap.la
libldap_r.so libldap.so
liblber.la liblber.so.2.0.122 libldap_r.a
libldap_r.so.2 libldap.so.2
liblber.so libldap.a libldap_r.la
libldap_r.so.2.0.122 libldap.so.2.0.122
The error I am receiving when I run the configure is:
..snip
checking for lber.h... yes
checking for ber_scanf in -llber... no
checking for ldap_init in -lldap... no
checking for ldap_set_rebind_proc... no
checking whether ldap_set_rebind_proc takes 3 arguments... 3
configure: error: libldap is needed for LDAP support
Any ideas what I am missing? Libldap seems to be there so how come
configure is not seeing it?
Any suggestions or comments would be grately appreciated.
Thanks,
-Jagga

Hi all,
Here's a general question about packages and files. Is there a way to
tell which files installed on the system belong to which package? For
example, I have a Solaris 8 server and I can't find a library
(libsendfile.so.1 to be exact). Can I find which package has this file
from the install CDs?

Can some one point me to a tool that can be used to compare two similar systems for cpu/memory performance. For example running some kind of script and see how much it takes to complete on the two systems to have an idea which is performing better. Specifically I have two similar sun servers (not same model) each with Four Ultra SPARC III ( 900 MHz cpu) and 4 GB memory, and apparently one of them is performing better then the other for running the same application workload. It could be some thing on the side of Application Configuration. I have a bunch of existing web applications to get running from a dead x86 Solaris box. Most of them use mod_perl modules. I had gcc3 and gmake from Sunfreeware, using pkg-get from Blastwave I could get most perl modules to install OK using perl -MCPAN -e method and the Sun Perl. I ran into an error getting DBI compiled/installed. At that point I read about the GNU synergy and installed perl 5.8.7 from sun freeware. Now I have problems building most modules. The build ends like so: Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good I see you're using perl 5.008007 on sun4-solaris, okay. Remember to actually *read* the README file! Use 'make' to build the software (dmake or nmake on Windows). Then 'make test' to execute self tests. Then 'make install' to install the DBI and then delete this working directory before unpacking and building any DBD::* drivers. Writing Makefile for DBI -- NOT OK I'm puzzled as to why it thinks we are running perl 5.0 The perl in my path is showing 5.8.7 with -V. I thought perhaps I should install cpan again since I have a newer perl, but that also fails like above. Does anyone have a hint to share?
