Sharing /home across OS types

Greetings.
We have been running our environments on Solaris for 12 years.
We just installed our first AIX box.
I got NFS working so that AIX can happily use files from our existing
environment...
and then I started thinking about NFS mounting /home on AIX....

In the general case, it NFS sharing works, as much of what is on /home
is data...
but one thing on /home is all the .profile files.
It seems it could be a problem to use PATHs from a Solaris
environment on AIX - or vice versa....

I can think of a few ways to deal with this situation,
(including some that I saw in the early days of Andrew)
but I thought I would ask if anyone found an easy one.

One option would be just to have sym links (eg, from /net/sun/home/me
to /home/me/sun)
so AIX users could cd to "~/sun/" to get to their home directory on
all other hosts.

Thanks
Seth
