nsswitch.conf and host file -

Hello -
I having an issue -
In my host file I have mailtest.domain.com
I can ping mailtest
# ping -s mailtest
PING mailtest: 56 data bytes
64 bytes from mailtest.domain.com (192.168.153.7): icmp_seq=0. time=5.83 ms
But I can't ping mailtest.domain.com
# ping -s mailtest.domain.com
PING mailtest.domain.com: 56 data bytes
Nothing... (ICMP blocked due to the fact it's trying to use the DNS listed
routable ip address)
domain.com is another domain - I'm trying to get mailhost in my host file to
point to another
server 192.168.153.7; mailtest does and an external routable ip address
which is in the DNS server that this server is pointed to..
But I can't use that address; I'm trying to go internal... It's Solaris
10...
nsswitch.conf is set to file dns... Why want my host file take
mailtest.domain.com, instead of using the address on the DNS server?
Thanks for any help...
