FOLLOWUP - removing metadb state database from active partition

Okay the consensus so far is that it is okay to remove them but to be
safe a new replica or set of replicas could be placed on new
partitions.

My followup question is. Are there any steps needed to deal with
breaking mirrors either before or after metadb replicas have been
removed? About a month back I had to resize a mirrored partition
which had a replica on it. I deleted the replica from the partition,
unmounted it, broke the mirror, resized one of the submirrors,
newfs-ed it, and then tried to mount the other submirror to copy files
over to the new filesystems. I found, however that I was unable to
mount the untouched submirror - I got an error about a bad superblock
(ans using the alternate superblocks did not help me either). Is there
anything I should have done differently to not hose the partition by
removing the metadb?
