could not start doc viewer

I get the following errors when attempting to connect to the server
using exceed. This only occurs with one user login. If I login as root,
all is fine.

       Could not start doc viewer?
        Could not initialize canvas?
        could not create DPS context?
        is adobe display postscript running...?
