A3500 failed controller(s)

hello,

i have a storedge A3500 that with a problem(or should i say big
problem). both of the controllers indicate that there is a "controller
failure" (the first from the 10 small leds on each controller is red).
here is the status of the 10 small leds:

        1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10
        o o o o o o o o o o

        1 - on (red) - controller fault
        2 - on (green) - power
        3 - blinking (green) - heartbeat ?
        4 - on (green)
        5 - on (green)
        6 - off
        7 - off
        8 - on (green)
        9 - on (green)
        10 - off

front panel leds indicate: power (on - green), controller fault (on -
red)

both controllers have absolutely the same led status. i have tried
changing the places of both controllers, removing all the attached
cables & terminators with no resoult. the host system will not recognize
the A3500 controller at all.
is there a way to troubleshoot sucha situation? is there a way of fully
resetting the A3500? can i use the serial ports/orthe ethernet connector
on the back of the controller to troubleshoot ? what cable should i use
and are there known commands ? is there somewhere technical
documentation available (except the standard sun docs)?
since there is no way to see the controller via rm 6.22 i can not
upgrade firmware ot see errors.
can i test the controller without anything connected to it ? i mean if i
power up on a new controller without connecting it to
host/raids/putting terminators etc. what will be the normal status of
the front panel leds ? also can i test with only one controller [if yes
wich one - A (higher slot) or B (lower slot)]
id there a way to troubleshoot the controller itself ?
i am sorry for the thousand questions but i can't seem to find an answer
in the standard documentation provided.
