Hi Everybody

A while back John DiMarco sent a mail to all users explaining that he
was not responsible for a mail pretending to be from him.
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=sun-managers&m=113759912820012&w=2

This was in fact a worm spew from VSNL.NET.IN

It would appear that despite mails I wrote to VSNL.NET.IN , alerting
them of this situation, they have done nothing, since the spew persists.

I have alerted them again that the problem persists.

If this situation continues, you may wish to inform them of their most
unprofessional handling of the situation and that your mailbox is not
a garbage dump for their worm spews.

You may contact VSNL at their web page:
http://www.vsnl.in/customersupport/feedback.php
or by email:
ip.admin@vsnl.co.in
postmaster@vsnl.co.in

Also, if you are a member of said ISP, please check your Windoze PC's
for this infection and resolve!!!

The worm is GREW.B. Below details on how to identify:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_GREW.B
http://www.proland.net/virus_info/worms/grewb.htm

If you cannot afford a commercial PC antivirus solution, there a great
free ones available, example AVG. There is no excuse to have a
worm/virus on your system.

Please note that while John's mailserver configuaration has protected
us to date, this should not be his task. He should not have to send
out mails explaining something he is not responsible for where his
address is being abused! Each member should be responsible for his own
systems.

Further it is not nice knowing you are being targeted with this worm
for the mere sake of being willing to assist members of the Solaris
community.

Thank you

Derek
