Looking for a script to check for diskspace usage of user home directories (revised)

Hello Managers,
I would like to know if anybody has a shell script or
perl script that reports the disk space usage of
each user on the /local/home/userX on a server. (ie.
how many MB each user uses). No diskquota used.

I know a "du -sk *" will probably take care of this,
but I was wondering if somebody has written a more
elegant script that will report the disk space usage
for each user. Plus this command "du -sk *" seems to
take forever on this file system.

I am running Solaris 8, and this file system is very
large, over 1 terabytes worth of data.
Many thanks in advance
Tony
