DAT 70 (DDS 5?) Tape Drive Compression Factor

Hello Gurus;

I am curious about the tape devices compression facilities in Solaris.

I am assuming that if I do something like

#tar cvf /dev/rmt/0c <some directory>

Solaris will use the compression capable device driver to write onto
/dev/rmt/0

Assuming that the hardware (in this case a DAT 70 (DDS 5??) tape drive)
has hardware compression,will a command like

#tar tvf /dev/rmt/0

be able to scan the TOC of the same tar file that was written using the
/dev/rmt/0c device driver?

Or do I have to do

#tar tvf /dev/rmt/0c

??

Warmest Regards
Steven Sim
