While waiting for your kind responses I played some more with our Ultra
20 and tried the following:

        umount /diagpart

After doing that all the commands from the standard procedure worked.

        metadb -a -f -c 2 c1d0s7
        ...

Now what is this /diagpart stuff all about? Can I savely remove

        /dev/dsk/c1d0p1 - /diagpart pcfs - yes -

from /etc/vstab? Thanks a lot!

Regards,

   Andreas
