Dear managers,
I have just setup SRS 3.1 on a SF 240 with a fresh Solaris 10
installation as follows
cd /opt/temp
unzip srss_3.1.zip
cd srss_3.1
./utinstall
cd /opt/SUNWut/sbin
./utadm -a bge1
/opt/SUNWut/sbin/utadm -L on
./utrestart
It basically worked. However, in the installation manual it was
mentioned that some modifications need to be done to
/etc/dt/config/Xservers.SUNWut.prototype for a headless SRS system.
They say:
************************************************************************
*****************
The Xservers file shipped with dtlogin includes an entry for DISPLAY:0,
on the
assumption that there is a frame buffer in the system. On a headless
Sun Ray server,
you need to configure /etc/dt/config/Xservers.SUNWut.prototype so that
dtlogin does not try to start an Xsun on DISPLAY:0. For instructions,
see
/etc/dt/config/README.SUNWut.
If the server is headless, it has no display and cannot, therefore,
have a
meaningful value for the DISPLAY variable.
************************************************************************
*****************
I did
cp /usr/dt/config/Xservers /etc/dt/config/Xservers.SUNWut.prototype
cp /usr/dt/config/Xconfig /etc/dt/config/Xconfig.SUNWut.prototype
pico /etc/dt/config/Xservers.SUNWut.prototype
and then commented out the last line in this file reading
# :0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/X11/bin/Xserver :0 -nobanner
Is it this what they mean? Don't take me wrong, it seems to work, at
least I got the login screen o the DTU, but we encountered a bunch of
$DISPLAY related problems on a another setup with SRS 3.0 and never got
these sorted out. This time I wanted to do it right.
Thanks a lot!
Regards,
Andreas
