Subject: Re: netboot v240 from bge1?
Your ethers file needs to have the mac address + 1 on the boot server.
These machines do not share the mac address for all ports.
So it would be 00:03:ba:e3:b0:10

Hi,
I need some advice regarding a pair of V240's I am attempting to
Jumpstart/Jet/SPS. I am trying to boot with SunoS 5.9 04/04, which
successfuly boots V240's with the PRIMARY interface.
I have them all configured up with 2 Interfaces connected.
The PRIMARY interface is bge0.
* bge1 is the interface I am trying to netboot from - it is our provisioning
VLAN.
In my sysidcfg, I have the following entry:
network_interface=bge1 {netmask=255.255.255.0 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=10.4.97.1}
When I boot, the system comes up like the following:
Sun Fire V240, No Keyboard
Copyright 1998-2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All rights reserved.
OpenBoot 4.16.2, 8192 MB memory installed, Serial #xxxx.
Ethernet address 0:3:ba:e3:b0:0f, Host ID: sdgjgf.
{1} ok boot net1 - install
Boot device: /pci@1f,700000/network@2,1 File and args: - install
100 Mbps FDX Link up
Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet
Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet
Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet
Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet
....
I have the V240 devalias set as follows, to the correct devices:
xnet2 /pci@1d,700000/pci@1/SUNW,hme@0,1:dhcp,
xnet1 /pci@1e,600000/pci@3/SUNW,hme@0,1:dhcp,
xnet /pci@1e,600000/pci@2/SUNW,hme@0,1:dhcp,
net3 /pci@1d,700000/network@2,1
net2 /pci@1d,700000/network@2
net1 /pci@1f,700000/network@2,1
net /pci@1f,700000/network@2
Both V240's are configured identically. I have all /etc/ethers and
/etc/hosts entries properly configured. I have successfully booted
a V490 with the same setup, but with ce interfaces.
Is there a problem with booting the V240 from anything but the
primary interface on Solaris 9? Is there a patch I can apply to
the install image on my Jet server?
Thanks!
rachel
