I have been using smpatch to patch solaris 9 systems for quite some
time. Once of my servers is configured to be a local patch server and
cache patches locally. This setup seems to work really well except I
have one issue when doing mass patch deployments. We like to test
patches in our environment before deploying them, however when executing
smpatch update all current patches (some untested) are installed.

=20

Is there a good method for not allow the local patch server to download
new patches from sun or a way to restrict the client from doing so?

=20

I found some documentation for the following, but it is terribly slow.

=20

First create a list of patches allowed to install and save as patchlist

smpatch analyze -x idlist=3Dpatchlist > pinstall

smpatch update -x idlist=3Dpinstall

=20

Is there a better way?

=20

Thanks in advance.
