Sun sshd "core not dumped"? on Solaris 9 after patch

I have an E250 with

                        Solaris 9 9/04 s9s_u7wos_09 SPARC
Copyright 2004 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Use is subject to license terms.
                             Assembled 29 June 2004

and the recommended patch cluster from July 21, 2005.

`ssh -X` to this server didn't work. I discovered patch 118335-04 which
was supposed to fix this problem.

so, I downloaded the patch, applied it, and rebooted the server.

it "worked" in that `ssh -X` now works. I can use X11Forwarding and get
the X displays on my local desktop. regular ssh also still "works".

however, now I'm getting a core dump message regarding sshd every time a
session is disconnected. I can confirm this by ssh'ing to the server,
checking my process IDs, exiting, and seeing the core message
immediately appear in /var/adm/messages with the processs ID that I just
exited.

Oct 5 11:56:05 eclogite genunix: [ID 603404 kern.notice] NOTICE:
core_log: sshd[16416] setid process, core not dumped:
/var/core/core.sshd.16416

I searched back and don't find any such messages prior to my applying
the patch.

Is this simply debug code that was never removed? After all, it says
"core not dumped", and everything seems to be working otherwise.
However, /var/core IS filling up with megabyte size files "core.sshd.pid".
