See the Solaris Tunable Parameters Reference Manual for your release of
Solaris (which you didn't tell us nor did you tell us your patchlevel).
In the Solaris 8 edition, of Jan 2001, chapter 3 is devoted to NFS
Tunable Parameters. You can retrieve this document from docs.sun.com .

Besides tuning of NFS you need to look at the network itself -- and
you've told us nothing of your network connectivity between the hosts.
Mucking around in your NFS parameters when your remote client is 100
miles away over a T1 isn't going to help you with transfer rate of tens
of gigabytes of data.

Please, give us more information about your environment including
- particular platform on server and client (supersparc? Ultra IV? How
many Gb of RAM? )
- the remote disk (is it IDE 5400 RPM? Fibre Channel 10K RPM? Something
else?)
- what else is going on with the i/o subsystem on the server ...check
iostat and not just 1 snapshot look at least for a minute at 10 second
intervals for a minimal clue. Combine this with the disk bandwidth and
overall activity of the i/o channel to the disk. An idle disk on an
otherwise-saturated bus is going to get sluggish.

Subject: Slow response in NFS access

Greetings All,

I am getting a slow response while accessing the NFS resources from the
client. This is happening not at all time.Is there any parameters we need
to check for increasing the performance of NFS.While I am giving the df
-k to get the mounted file system it will display local filesystem very
fast and shows the NFS filesystem with some delay.

I am not able to find the solution. If I increase server system threads
from 16 to 64 in the nfs.server scripit for the nfsd daemon,is this will
help in anyway.

Thanks & Regards
Rajeev Andrews
