V240 serial console is not working

Dear Sun Managers,

I have a V240 running Solaris 9 with a graphics card
installed, USB mouse and keyboard. I would like to
use the serial console as well as the graphics
display.

I connected a laptop to SER_MGT, output goes to
graphics screen even though input is from SER_MGT. All
output to the console goes to the Graphics screen
regardles of where the input is. And when I use "sc>
console" the echo of whatever I type is being sent to
the graphics console screen not the console plugged
into the SER_MGT port.

When I type "console" command, and in single user
mode, then output goes to graphics screen ONLY even
though input comes from laptop. Commands can be run,
but input comes from laptop and output is to graphics
screen.

When I type "console" command, and in multi-user mode,
then output goes to graphics screen ONLY even though
input comes from laptop. Commands CANNOT be run, they
only echo onto graphics screen.

When I type #. then control comes back to sc prompt
where all input and output is from / to the laptop (ie
operating correctly).

I need to have remote console access to machine and
this machine will be located at a geographically
different site.

Have anyone encountered this problem before? This
issue become urgent and would appreciate if someone
can shed somelight on this. Is the connection to the
SERIAL_MGT port is correct and is cable could be the
problem? What OBP settings are I need to be taken
care?

TIA.

Regards,
Andrew
