Advice on backup and restore solution.

All,
   I am currently faced with a problem of backing up systems that are all
running solaris 7. These machines have no connectivity except to each other.
I am wondering if my solution of using cpio to create an achive of a systems
complete file system. Then use jumpstart to build the OE then use a finish
script to then take the cpio image and place it on top of the built OE. Does
this sound like a viable solution or does someone else have a better idea. I
am open to anything. Has anyone ever used cpio as a way to do backups?
