All,

I promise to collate and post all reponses ...

Has anyone had any experience of installing SAN patch 4.4.6 to address cfgadm
issues with fiber devices ?

We're experiencing issues whereby we cannot get our Master Netbackup server to
use our robot with robtest.

The Master server is a 280R running below O/S with SAN patch 4.0 and the
Library is a StorEdge L180.

@gla1bs01 # uname -a
SunOS gla1bs01 5.8 Generic_117000-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
root@gla1bs01 #

The problem started to occur following a reboot that was required due to a
ethernet issue which is resolved now.

The cfgadm output is as follows for the fiber devices in the Library:

root@gla1bs01 # cfgadm -al | grep 5001
c3::50010xxxxx43d8xx tape connected configured unknown
c3::50010xxxxx45cbxx unavailable connected configured unknown
<---- robot
c3::50010xxxxx47daxx tape connected configured unknown
c3::50010xxxxx6f40xx tape connected configured unknown
c4::50010xxxxx43b2xx tape connected configured unknown
c4::50010xxxxx43b3xx tape connected configured unknown
c4::50010xxxxx43b3xx tape connected configured unknown
root@gla1bs01 #

I've tried -

rm /dev/rmt/*, rm /dev/sg/*, rm sg and sg.config kernel drivers, rem_drv sg,
sg.install
then cfgadm -c unconfigure -o force_update / cfgadm -c configure

the above worked for a short while (hours) then failed again in the same way
and has
been irrecoverable since with the same cfgadm and /var/adm/messages output

Sun have asked that we install SAN_4.4.6_install_it.tar.Z on the basis that
cfgadm is not behaving as normal (as above).

Please could you share any experiences (good and bad) that you have with

* Installing SAN_4.4.6_install_it.tar.Z
* Resolving issues with cfgadm using SAN_4.4.6_install_it.tar.Z

I have yet to confirm if we will require to install the patch on all
fabric-attached devices on our SAN,
though I strongly suspect we will be advised to.

I need to fix this safely asap - looking to install this morning - and will be
very grateful for any assistance given.
