Just to add :

when those Perl scripts are not running (& they are run
every 10 secs), the CPU utilization is normally around
50-75% only as shown by "vmstat 2"

Thanks

Hi,

We have a few Perl scripts that read Netflow application
& convert it to MRTG data format.

Lately, I believe due to the increase of data, the Perl
scripts are chewing a lot of CPU & total CPU in the
system is often above 90% when the NFCollector(Netflow)
application Perl scripts run. However, this often result in
BMC Patrol generating alert to our Tivoli TEC console.

Is there anyway to manage the Perl scripts such that
each time they run, they dont hog/cause the total CPU
utilization to go above 90% (this is the Patrol threshold).

Will "nice Perl_script_name" & "nice NFCollector" help?
Or instead of 'nice', is priocntl a better tool & what's the
increment/priority value you would suggest?

Thanks
