Hi Guys !

Further to my earlier question, I would like to add the following

1. I am running the pkgadd as root
2. pkgadd binaries seems to have proper permissions

                                                               i.
-r-xr-xr-x 2 root sys 1024868 Apr 22 23:27 /usr/sbin/pkgadd

3. I am trying to do pkgadd from /tmp directory and /tmp has
appropriate permissions
4. This is thirdparty ( not sun ) package
5. I have add patch for pkgadd ie 113713-19 but the patch fails as
well
since it cannot do pkgadd on the packages included in the patch
6. I am only able to find on document from sunsolve which tells the
following, but this does not work as well

To install certain third party packages set the following
environment variable:

NONABI_SCRIPTS=TRUE

Any suggestions

Thanks

Ayaz

HI Guys !

I am getting the following error when I try to add a package to the sun
server with solaris 8

Pkgadd - execute permission denied.

I have tried verifying the permission of the target directory etc etc and
could not find any thing wrong.

Any suggestions

Thanks

Ayaz

Hi Gurus can anyone offer advice on the following please

I have been testing Sun Studio 10. For testing purposes I installed
temporarily to /export/home. After completing testing I removed it using
prodreg. Reinstalled to default /opt area and most functions work. I can
compile and sunstudio opens. However I cannot use GVIM or XEMACS from
sunstudio. For GVIM I get "External Editor Error:
/export/home/SUNWspro/bin/gvim: not found". Plus a similar message for
XEMACS.
Clearly some link has been left from the original install. I could use a
symbolic link as a workaround, but for would prefer to properly resolve it

TIA

Thanks to: Rich Teer, Carsten B. Knudsen, Bernd Schemmer, Tim Chipman,
Darren Dunham, Jason LeDuc, vincent@cojot.name.

There is no practical way to move the disk with the data intact.

Rich and Bernd summed it up most succinctly:

Rich: "You'll have to do a dump and restore, because the on-disk UFS format
is not compatibile between SPARC (big endian) and x86 (little endian).
The disk itself should be OK, but you won't see the data."

Bernd: "IMHO that is not possible due to the different architectures of x86
and
SPARC (little-endian versus big-endian) You must backup the data,
repartition the disk and restore the data."

Dunham points out that: "The anticipated release of ZFS should change this
in the future (will be cross-architecture compatible), but doesn't help you
today."

Thanks to all for your help.

Sun Gurus,

So I did some research and found that lsof does not work in zones. I
even tried to run it from the global zone on a zone with the -z option
but I got the can't stat() filesystems message.

Is there something equivelent that I can use in a zone to get tcp port
info? I.e. lsof -i TCP:80

Thanks,
Sonny

Hello everyone,

I have a solaris 5.5.1 production system running on
E450 with latest os patch. It is our oracle server.
In vmstat output, system always takes more than half
of the cpu resource:

% vmstat 5
 procs memory page disk
    faults cpu
 r b w swap free re mf pi po fr de sr f0 s0 s1 s1
in sy cs us sy id
  0 0 0 6592136 407328 0 6651 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 1
0 559 11991 627 27 56 17

I also checked the mpstat, there is no io waiting in
"wt" column. The iostat doesn't show any busy disk,
network has no collision at all. Output of ps doens't
indicate any busy user process. I am running out of
ideas now.

Any ideas? Thanks very much!
