Hello:

I try to install java JRE 1.5 in a Solaris 8 system.
Download and install 32- and 64-bit kits. Finishing installation of 32-bit version, according to its installation guide "Enable and Configiure" section, it requires to build a symbolic link on the "Mozilla installation directory" to the JRE's libjavaplugin_oji.so.

Since the Solaris box does not have Mozilla, I download Mozilla Browser V1.4 and proceed to install it. The installation process fails because it require JRE v1.4 or above.

Why does JRE 1.5 installation require Mozilla or any browser? What is the proper procedure to hava them installed? Should I install older version of JRE and then gradually upgrade?

The current JRE version on the SOlaris box is 1.2.2_10.

Thanks in advance.
Warren
