E4500 and A5200 Throughput issues

I have a 4-way E4500 with a fiber attached A5200 loaded with 18gb scsi
drives. OS Version is 2.9, with all the latest patches applied.
It is running as an Oracle 9i DB server (9.2.0.5). Disk is configured
Raid 0+1 for data files and Raid 1 for log files.

Running some sql scripts shows the throughput peaking at 750 I/O's per
sec.

Comparing it to a IBM Netfinity 7100 (the old server) single 700Mhz
intel CPU, with internal scsi disk configured similarly. Throughput
for the same scripts on this server peaks 15000 I/O's per sec.

Needless to say I have an unhappy Manager.
Questions:
1) Are there any parameters that I could tune?
2) Is there some sort of HW mismatch going on, never managed fiber
attached disk before?
3) Is this all I should expect.

TIA
Bob
P.S. Filesystems are UFS and I have tried both Async and DirectIO, with
negligible results.
