There solution was to install all SUNWdt* packages and the SUNWxw* packages.

I was dealing with a customised operating environment, the chaps who
wrote the jumpstart proceedure had a stripped environment loaded onto
this v120, so there was quite alot missing. The same solution worked
on two of the v240 boxes I was servicing also.
