Mail to root goes to me but why?

On my Solaris 9 box when I send mail to root at the machine
I receive the message but I'm not sure why I get the message.

I don't have an /etc/mail/aliases file defined on this machine.
Normally I understand that mail sent to root at the machine goes
to where you've defined root to go to in the /etc/mail/aliases file, i.e.

root: martini1@llnl.gov

but I don't have this defined or this file on this host.

I don't have root defined in my nisplus tables for mail aliases.

#niscat mail_aliases |grep root

returns nothing.

This is a nisplus client.

Any thoughts on how root mail is getting to me?

Thank You.

On other hosts I have /etc/mail/aliases defined this way with no root
entry other than postmaster
