cron jobs no longer works

Dear managers,

we run out of disk space on one of our servers. After removing a big
file, things went to normal again, except the root cron jobs (crontab
-e), that are no longer executed. Do I need to restart a process that
might have died? I am stuck here. Where should I start to look for the
reason?
