Bootable DVD Jumpstart Questions

Hello experts,

My intention is to make a DVD to deploy a previously made Flash Archive. I've
just made a bootable DVD, from a 12/03 Solaris 9 DVD, using the Sun blueprints
instructions. This yields a DVD with the following slices:

- s0: (approx 550MB after I clean out the Product, 1_of_2_Doc, 2_of_2_Doc,
ExtraValue extraneous stuff).
- s1: (approx 550MB - the boot kernel)
- s2-s5: architecture redirects - irrelevant to me
- s6: my new slice, intended to carry my payload.

With 1100MB taken up by the first two slices, I only have 3200 left for
payload. I'd like to whittle down the size of the first two slices.

For slice s0: Most of the space is taken up by Solaris9/Tools/Boot. I don't
understand why there is a boot kernel here when the DVD bootstraps off of s1.
Can I remove this? I assume not fully since the document had me change
/Solaris9/Tools/Boot/usr/sbin/install.d/profind. Any advice on what I can
remove from this?

For slice s1: A boot kernel whose only job in life is to deploy a flash
archive should not have to be 550MB. Two questions: What can I remove? How
do I "shrink" the size of s1, since it is a loopback filesystem?

Finally, as an aside, I am curious why the Sun article goes to the trouble of
reconstructing the DVD to match the VTOC from the original DVD (original VTOC
+ new s0 + padding + other slices). I use mkisofs with my new slices and it
seems to correctly build an ISO. My end result works, I just want to get more
space on the DVD.

Thanks in advance, I appreciate all constructive responses!

Cheers,
Chuck
