Sun Hostid (free version)

After checking John Birtley's README for hostid.tar.gz, I noticed that it
required a license (you must "contact sales@buildmonkey.com for a valid
licence."). I decided not to execute it but rather to post my own program with
the same functionnality:

get : http://step.polymtl.ca/~coyote/vmhid.tgz
MD5: 49cfd458603ff6688da106ccd93a1b31 vmhid.tgz

It does the same thing as John's stuff but comes with full source code and
without the need for a license. It is based on Mark C. Henderson's C source of
'hid2'. Use at your own risk, of course. I wrote that a few years ago but I
never found any use..

Oh, and btw, this software (and John's) won't do you any good for VxVM,
changing the hostid and/or platform name isn't enough for VxVM, which uses
kernel modules that tap directly into /dev/openprom using ioctl's..

As usual, don't use this to pirate software or do anything illegal.. I shall
not be held responsible for anything you do with that software (which is
provided without warranty).

Usage example:
# uname -a
SunOS zapme 5.8 Generic_117350-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10
# ./vmhid_64
--====*** ./vmhid_64 v1.7.4.2 Diff by Coyote Corp. ***====--
current hostid is 0x80a21ec8
current platform is SUNW,Ultra-5_10
Usage: ./vmhid_64 -h <hostid> -p <platform>
Example: ./vmhid_64 -h 80808080 -p SUNW,Sun-Fire-15000
# ./vmhid_64 -p SUNW,Sun-Fire-15000
--====*** ./vmhid_64 v1.7.4.2 Diff by Coyote Corp. ***====--
current hostid is 0x80a21ec8
current platform is SUNW,Ultra-5_10
* Requested platform = SUNW,Sun-Fire-15000
* setting platform type to SUNW,Sun-Fire-15000
# uname -a
SunOS zapme 5.8 Generic_117350-12 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-15000

I hope this helps (No need to pay for software that's available for free
somewhere else). :)

Patches welcomed! :)
