Configuring the connection timeout on OpenSSH

Hi everyone

I have OpenSSH 2.9p2 installed on a number of servers running Solaris 8. If I
try to connect to a server that is not available the ssh session hangs for a
considerable amount of time before timing out.

I have tried setting the ConnectionAttempts parameter on the command line and
the config files to 1. This cuts the time down it hangs to about 4 minutes. If
it is set to 2 it hangs for 8 minutes etc etc. In the ssh man page this
parameter is supposed to set the number of attempts made to connect at a rate of
1 a second. Therefore my understanding is that a setting of 1 should timeout
after 1 second not 4 minutes.

Obviously I am missing something. I have tried setting the FallBackToRsh
parameter to no, but that didn't make a difference either.

Any help appreciated.
