Trouble Installing Forte C 6 Update 2

I was hoping someone here with SUN experience could point me in the
right direction. Someone I work with sent me this email (below) along
with the original email they sent to SUN. (Names have been deleted to
protect the innocent :)

Thanks,

Joel

Joel,

This email below explains what my real problem is. This is what I
wrote to the Sun people. I called them and they said I had to have a
contract to get help or pay $115/hour for help with software. I was
hoping that all I really have to do is find a way to change the hostid
so that it will match up with the hostid we have for the license. I
found a posting on the internet that said that the hostid is dependent
on the MAC address and other components in the computer, but it can
also change if the file system is formatted differently. We haven't
changed any hardware in the computer, but I have reformatted the hard
drive and reinstalled the Solaris, which I think is why the hostid has
changed and I do not know how the file system was setup before. If
this doesn't make any sense just let me know.

Thanks!

Hello,

We are having trouble installing Forte C 6 Update 2. We downloaded
the software a few months ago according to our system configuration at
that time. Since then, the machine we are trying to install the Forte
on, which is running Solaris 9 x86, has been reformatted and the
Solaris 9 has been reinstalled. When we try to install the Forte
licenses, the hostid is not the same and the data checksum does not
match up with the information on the license. When we try to run the
Forte, or Workshop 6, there is a License Error: FLEXlm error: -18,147

Also, when the software is installed, FLEXlm 7.0b, Solaris Patches for
Forte Developer 6, and Forte C, when you click "Install License" from
the Web Start window, the following window pops up:

"Error: You have the wrong version of the license management software
& utilities installed. You need to install the most recent version of
the software to be able to take advantage of any new functionality in
the products or license software. The expected version number for the
SUNWlicsw package is 6.200

To find what version is installed use: pkginfo -| SUNlixsw\*"

I checked the version and it is 6.2
When we try to install the licenses as is, with the non-matching
checksums, the following window pops up:

"The licenses have been installed, but an old license server has been
installed on this machine. In order to complete the installation, you
must install the latest license manager and utilities and start the
license server.

Note, for all other servers on which you install product software you
will need to copy /etc/opt/license/LIC_CONFIG_SCRIPT from this machine
and run it on the product server. This will install a local copy of
the license file allowing product software to access this server with
no per-user modifications."

The machine is just a stand-alone machine, basic 1Ghz Pentium III PC,
for development use.

The Solaris products we bought are:
Product #:
SOLZI-090C9AYM - Solaris 9 System Administrator's multilingual media
kit w/ English Installation documentation, x86 platform

SOLII-090-D9U9 - Solaris 9 for system w/ 1 processor maximum, x86 platform
SOL99-090-F9D9 - Solaris 9 System Administrator's documentation for
x86 platform

We only used the Solaris installation cd and the two Solaris software
cds and the Java software cd.

Thank you,
