sun T3 disk replacement

Hello,

I have two Sun T3 w/ 9 36Gig hardware raid arrays neither of which is on sun hardware support. I would like to make just one of them usable as a repository for backups (i.e. semi-important data, but not worth the price of support). I have 8 of the 9 T3 disks setup as a RAID5 volume and the ninth is a spare. Are there any special software disk markings or tag used to identify a particular disk as disk n of T3 named xyz? Should a disk fail, I do not want to insert one of the other T3s disks and have it reject it as it thinks it is part of another array. Said differently, I have a volume created and dont want to find out that I cannot use disks that I expected to use as spares.

If the disks are tagged, is there an easy way to clean the disks? The disk caddy is different than the normal disks of other Sun products and I would speculate that they are just fiber channel disks and can be cleaned via dd(1) after installing one in a machine like a V880 caddy using another caddy. Anyone successfully tried anything like this? I will summarize should I get any useful info. If no one responds, I may try some experiments to see what is possible.
